Cliff, The $79 and $99 kindles are ad supported. You need to pay more for kindles that will not show advertisements.  The prices are $109 and  $139 if you do not want ads and special offers to be displayed.

You are right. I knew this. At first, I didn't really care b/c I hate the boring screen savers.

However, I thought the special offers would be book related or at least other amazon products related. Then I saw their sample on their site and it showed airline ads and credit card offers.

I canceled and upgraded to the ad free offers.
