Pursuing A Balanced Life PodcastPursuing A Balanced Life was originally launched in March 2006. When it started, I (Cliff Ravenscraft), had been podcasting, as a hobby, for a few short months. In January 2008, I made the decision to leave my career in insurance, after 11 years, to build an online business in the podcasting industry.

This show is best described as an audio journal that shares my journey of consistently taking my message, my business and my life to the next level while finding a way to balance all the demands that come along with being an entrepreneur, husband and father. The topics I address most in this podcast are Business, Family, Fitness, Faith, Relationships, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Productivity and Time Management.

After eight months of intentionally putting my health, fitness and family above my business pursuits, I had made the decision, last week, that it is time to jump back into the driver’s seat of my business pursuits.

Also, I share how the creative ideas for new products, services and various other income streams have been coming to me at all hours of the day and how I’ve been capturing those ideas so that they are not quickly forgotten. I talk about the financial ramifications of intentionally putting most of my business pursuits on the back burner to place an extreme focus on the area of health and fitness in 2015.     In this episode of Pursuing A Balanced Life, I share something that is not easy to share. This week, I received an email from a client who had already spent nearly $2,000 with me and who had already communicated that he had every intention on spending at least another $2,000 with me within the next few weeks.

    The subject of this email was to let me know how disappointed he was by that fact that I was not willing to make myself available to answer all of the “quick questions” that he had related to the setup of his podcast.

    It’s important to note that I had clearly communicated my limitations on accessibility (or boundaries) before he ever spent a single dollar with me and, also, that he stated that he understood and respected my expressed limitations of availability prior to my May 25th session of Podcasting A to Z.

    This email me caused me to evaluate, or even question, the boundaries that I had put in place and communicated to this client. This morning, I took a great deal of time to review every email interaction that I have had with this client since the beginning of this year. Upon my review, I’m confident that I had made the right decision. With that being said, it is very possible that my setting and protecting the boundaries that I have communicated may have cost me a paying customer in this situation. However, if I had this entire situation to do over again, given the same circumstances, I would not have changed any of my responses.

    I share this story in spite of the fact that it may seem to negatively reflect on my desire to serve my clients by any means necessary. In fact, for the first six years of my business, I would have done just about anything to make this client happy. However, while not setting and protecting boundaries had served my clients and my business well, it caused me to sacrifice a great deal in the area of time spent with my family and focusing on my own personal fitness and health.

    It’s not often when someone pushes back on your boundaries. In fact, most people really do understand and respect them. However, it’s never easy to have a paying customer who communicates that they feel that you have let them down.

    In this special episode of Pursuing A Balanced Life, I share a conversation that I had with my friend, Dr. Clark Gaither (ClarkGaither.com). Dr. Gaither is a board certified family physician who has been in the full time practice of medicine for the past 22 years.

    Recently, Dr. Gaither and I had an email conversation about all the medical benefits that come along with all the work that I’ve been putting into my daily, high intensity, aerobic exercise.     I can hardly believe that this is the 600th time that I’ve held a recorder in my hand to share what’s been going on in my life. I started this podcast back on March 16th, 2006 and have been using this show to provide behind the scenes look at my life.

    I have shared my journey from when I was podcasting as a hobby, to when I decided to start dreaming about a career focused on podcasting and all the details related to my journey of building my business to the level that it is today.

    I’m incredibly thankful those of have been with me since episode 001 and am also thankful for those who have joined me along the way. I hope to be blessed with the opportunity to share another 600+ episodes with you moving forward.
