The debate on "Is Ben Dead?" combined with a theory I heard on Jay & Jack has sent my mind into overdrive. What do you think about this? (The first part I heard on Jay & Jack, but I just took it a little further)

What if Sun, Frank, Locke & Co. are in an alternate version of 2007, one in which the Dharma Initiative was not purged because Ben was killed before he could lead it? That would explain the Dharma "class" photos still being on the wall and all of the Dharma Initiative signs in the version of Camp Crystal Lake that Christian seems to reside in. (As far as I know, what follows are completely my own ideas. If someone else said it first, I did not mean to take their idea) If we can take Mrs. Hawking at face value about the universe course correcting, the Dharma Initiative was always meant to be wiped out by the Hostiles sometime before 2007. By killing Ben, Sayid either just delayed the inevitable purge or he changed the identity of the person leading it. Maybe that's what Pierre Chang meant in the Comic-Con video when he said they were powerless to stop the purge: Maybe they tried going into the past and trying several different ideas to stop it, but the purge still always happens, it just occurs at a different time led by a different person.

Of course, I fully expect this theory to be totally blown apart by something that happens in this episode Smiley

I don't think anything can be changed, because it already happened. I don't think there are any alternate versions, just one. Everything that has happened, has happened already. So, if I go back and throw a rock to the head of Damon in 2004, he will feel this in 2004 but I won't throw the rock until I got back in time and threw the rock. Everything has happened already in the general time line, but not yet inmy timeline.
This is why you can't change anything, because it happened already. That's my take on the timetravel on lost, I could be completely wrong though. I like ypur theory, but I dont want the timetravel to be like that. Even if you can't change the outcome but can the way how it happened, they would be able to do stuff like crashing another plane so their plane doesn't crash so they do not have to go trough the events they went trough.
I'm not sure if this is clear, but this is how I think about it.

It was sure cool to speculate about this all week...and they answered this question so quickly...

So my question is ... did Sayid shoot to kill? And if so, wouldn't he have done it correctly? Do you think Ben asked Sayid to shoot him knowing that would be his ticket to the others? That might be a little far-fetched.

Nope, that's what I suggested last episode.  Ben is the King of Kontrol. He probably trained Sayid so he would be able to kill a child.  Although we don't know how much he really recalls from being a child.

Then there is Juliet..."of course he likes you, you remind him of her"
The woman Ben remembered WAS Juliet 'the nice lady that helped him'
