Yeah it looks really awesome! A teacher told our class about it, I'm studying to become an elementary school teacher and this could also be a great tool for children to work together on group assignments. Of course that's just one of the many possible uses, like solving a Sudoku puzzle together.

Let's hope it gets opened up to the public ASAP!

I'll try to find time to watch (or listen) to the Google Wave preview this weekend.  I guess when it takes off, we're supposed to "surf the 'wave'".

I watched that a couple of days ago and it is totally awesome! My best friend had called me earlier that morning because he was upset about some miscommunication in a group project. When I saw this I thought to myself that Google Wave would have completely prevented all the miscommunication and my friend wouldn't have been so upset that day.

Yeah, and I'm really excited about how the gspn.tv community might make use of this!

So, what is this again, for those who don't have an hour and 20 minutes to watch this? I haven't yet been able to figure this out!

It's collaborative computing, but real time vs even the way Google Docs is now.  Apps like E-mail, document editing and commenting, blogging, games and photo sharing all with real time updating & integrating with other Wave servers (Google open sourcing the code so other companies can create their own servers).

For development geeks, it's all Java.  Google Web Toolkit (GWT) lets you write Java code which it turns into Javascript and CSS, which has been around a couple years.  The server code, as I understand it, is also Java.

Yeah, and for something like this forum.  Imagine you were here in the forum, you could sit here and watch me type this post as I'm typing it.

Could really make for some fun collaboration projects and ongoing threaded conversations.

I'd really like to watch this Google Wave video, because I still can't figure out what the heck Google Wave is, nor what it's supposed to do for us.  I can't sit in front of my computer to watch this whole thing...even in shifts.

Does anyone know of a link or location that I can actually download this whole video so that I can watch it a bit at a time on my iPhone.  Most any Apple downloadable format will work, and I can use my Quicktime Pro to convert it.

Thanks guys!

Hi Wayne,

When you click the video so that it will open on Youtube website, then click with your mouse in the Address bar and copy/paste this:
Code:
javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt='+(isHDAvailable?'22':'18')+'&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']}
It will give you a window that allows you to rename the file and save it to your PC as an mp4 file.

Or, if your on Safari, just play the video and go to the Activity window, in that window just double click the link where you see the MB already downloaded and the video will be saved.

I use a download manager so it will open in that automatically, effortless!

This is will download the original FLV file, so the full quality flash file. You can than convert this to any format you want. Open the FLV with QuickTime and convert as usual!

This is the URL I got Wayne, just paste it into your browser for you to download.

http://v16.lscache2.c.youtube.com/videoplayback?ip=0.0.0.0&sparams=id%

expire=1250913600&key=yt1&factor=1.25&burst=40&id=bff5325662138984

Not sure why the forum is only recognizing the first line as a URL, but oh well.

Anyway, this could have been so much easier with Google Wave, as I could have just dragged and dropped the 2 screenshots onto this thread in my browser, instead of having to upload them to my server and then adding the image URLs here etc...

I don't think Google Wave will be the next big thing, but it is something to be excited about.

Wayne,

Here's something easier that than all the above.

http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/04/download-youtube-videos-as-mp4-files.html

Simply go there and add the "bookmarklet" that they have described on the above site.

Then go to the google wave video on youtube.. .

Then "Click Your Bookmarklet" that says "Get YouTube Video"

You'll see a link appear that says "Download as mp4"

That's it.

Thanks for the tips and techniques for this Lee, Cliff, and Stefan!  It worked great.  Now I can finally watch this Google Wave video on my own terms on my iPhone, and find out what all of the buzz is about!

Have a great day!   #PABL#

Wayne said he wanted to convert it to other formats for other devices, well with the original FLV file he has the best quality possible and would not need to decode the MP4 first. So he saves time and has better quality results... Wink

Wonder when they look for this to come out. I can't wait to play with it and actually look at using it for something good.
