I had a dream recently that Theatre Geeks was at the top of the "theatre" search list in the iTunes store podcast section.  What does this say about me?

I agree with Cliff. One question I have asked myself over the past few years goes along the lines of this: "what can I do right now to move myself further towards...(enter goal here)?"

You have some great advantages already. You have a mentor, and a community that is here to support you.

You're way ahead of me on this goal. I'm putting together my first podcasts. I have all the hardware in place. I know what I want my content to be. I'm stuck on a number of infant steps. Here are the highlights:

1. Wordpress is inherently ugly. I know I know. It's the absolute best platform for your podcast's home. It just takes time to learn how to do this.
2. Audio theme and bump music.
3. Banner and cover art. The single ugliest thing in Wordpress has to do with the horrible default cover art. While I'm pretty good with Photoshop I know that this is a place for pros.
4. Telephone recording capability. I have set up the mix-minus setup for skype but I need to invest in an audio interface and get a landline installed.

The nice thing about these limits is that they are all surmountable. What are your limits? What's holding you back? what can you do to make your podcast irresistible to your potential audience?

Let us all know if we can help.

As the great philosopher Yoda once said - "Do or not do, there is no try!"

Wcameron,

I am at the same stage now of getting underway starting a new podcast with a friend. (Hopefully he will stay my co-host)

I have had small steps from keeping me actually putting anything out there before. These "problems" still exist, but maybe not for long.

I started podcasting in 2004 and did it for 9 months, all about Star Trek Fanfilms. (I am still involved with one). Having enjoyed those 9 months, I wanted to start podcasting again back in 2005 about Apple / Macs but could not decide on so many things that today are more than obvious now. Sadly 5 years have past since then and I still have nothing going. Other than my YouTube Tutorials ( http://www.youtube.com/user/LeeAndrewVideos ) I have nothing else going despite my love for podcasts growing stronger each day. Its killing me that after so many years I was still not able to produce anything. Maybe I just need a co-host, who knows...

I am not happy with my gear, but being unemployed leaves me with what little I have. Same goes for the website, never been too happy with the Wordpress themes I tried, but no money to invest there either.

I am enthusiastic about so many things, yet not enough to want to dedicate myself to only one show. And then there is the question of content and is it good enough.

I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

I applaud anyone who actually gets a podcast going and "doing it".

I wish you all the luck with your show, you have at least one listener already. Tongue

Hey Lee. Just re-read your post. You definitely need to launch a podcast. Work with what you have. I'm struggling through the process largely on your encouragement. You got me through the initial hurdles. You chastised me when you thought I was podfading after just one episode. You have been one of the biggest supporters of the people on this forum. How can we help you now?

We might be going off topic here, I might need to start a new thread, or Cliff can split this thread into a new one.

To be honest I need a job before I can really pursue this.

No money to get a website started is one big issue, let alone my gear I current have that seems to be degrading. I am sending in recordings for Cliff and I am noticing strange clicks and pulsing that was never there before. Cleaning audio for every show is kinda not what I had in mind. I had to go with the M-Audio Interface because my trusty Mackie mixer was damaged when I moved to Germany. (Mackie Onyx 1220)

But as soon as I get a chance I will get a show started. Thank you for the offered support, I very much appreciate THAT! :-)

No worries Lee. I totally understand your situation. Just let me know if I can do anything to help when you're ready to launch.

Cheers.
