As it stands right now, my 2 podcast websites ocdcast.com and thenerdistheword.com forward to my "network" page at http://1point21studios.com (or as of recently http://1.21studios.com works as well).  I want to start blogging more about my nerdy interests and other nerdy/geeky things as a companion to my two podcasts, however I feel like its hard to "market" that under the 1.21studios.com domain.  Right now, I am three ideas:

Idea 1 - Keep everything the same as it is right now
Pros: Easy to manage
Cons: "1.21studios.com" doesn't tell anyone about what the blog content is about

Idea 2 - Start a second wordpress installation using "thenerdistheword.com" domain, use "1.21studios.com" as a generalized network page
Pros: When I say "thenerdistheword.com", you get a vague idea what the blog/content will be about
Cons: Now I have to manage 2 different wordpress installations, which for me might be hard to come up with 2 good looking unique sites

Idea 3 - Get a new domain for everything, like "chrisrenshaw.com" or something similar and route all my domains to that one wordpress installation
Pros: One singular spot for me and all my web content (both written blogs and podcasts)
Cons: Have to buy a new domain, might be confusing?

Anyways, I really don't know which way to go on this, so any advice from the community would be appreciated.

Interesting question, and some what goes over the same things I have had to consider of late.

Of course the answer is you can do any one of the three! But..
I will give you my opin on the matter if it can help any?
and also if you don't mind, provide a very small bit of what I think is positive critique :-)

First comment / Thought
If your podcast's are going to be just that a podcast and have nil product or service
arm to them for moneymaking then why would you need a sep site and or domain anyway.

If you keep the podcast within or on your main 1.21 domain you can at least brand that side of your business...
You are after all calling it 1.21"studios" your podcasts are a product and production of that 1.21 studio!

So the above provides good opportunity to Brand the 1.21 this in turn can or will spill over into the podcasts imo.

 2. Regards people knowing what the podcast is about, they are not going to get that from the 1.21 site anyway...if its itunes
they come across you via. The only way they would know you from the 1.21 site is if you have been branding and pushing 'that'
See above again...Branding 1.21 will and can spill over to your podcast :-)

Your main place for people to know and get a feel for what your podcasts are about is the pod directory's and itunes esp.
So that means a good description, a good podcast name and a good podcast graphic...note that involves nothing
to do with a podcast specific web site :-)

In your podcast listing on itunes rather than put your name you can do what Dan does from 5by5 and that is he puts 5by5 in the name section...again
promoting the 'studio' and the central home / place you gain all his podcast info..possibly evan checking out the other ones you knew
nothing about!

Its just like Cliff, he has all his podcasts on one focused site for the most part, and provides additional separation for those few that have a strong
money making and business aspect to the over all company of gspn. :-)

Your choice of name thenerdistheword is to be honest and a little critical not one I would register.
If you take that podcast and place it into your main site you ca then call it what ever you wish!
That's within your site and within itunes. I feel THAT is a benefit you will loose if you use the domain your considering.

My constructive point here is .. if you are going to use that name thenerdistheword, then take out the word THE from it.
it really tends to kill what your after imo :-)

'Nerd Is the Word'  runs / sounds far more hip and with it than, 'The Nerd' is the Word
Also consider the point...that you can if you use the above method ... use any name then that you wish!

Power Nerd Podcast, Nerd Herd, anything.

So what I hope your getting from this is that imo you should go with your option number one...but...see and consider
more advantages  it could give you than your currently thinking.

My regards and all the best with your ideas!
David.

Thanks for the opinion!  Yeah, Im leaning towards keeping things the way they are and just improve my main 1.21 Studios website (which it desperately needs).  To address your critique, I already bought thenerdistheword.com, right now it forwards to the category feed for the podcast The Nerd is the Word.  Originally it was because nerdistheword.com was taken (its a parked address, not being used for anything....grr) so I added "the".

After your comments though, I may keep the domain as is but change the itunes/rss listing to take out "the".  Ill have to discuss it with my girlfriend (my lovely cohost).  Thanks again for the feedback.
