Hello all,

I have begun producing a podcast with a friend I met in another forum, Elton Mc Manus, and we'd be happy to have to check it out.

"An Apotheosis of a Bombast" - http://bombastpodcast.podbean.com

at that link you can play it through an embedded player, download it, listen through itunes, your zune, whatnot.
Each episode has show notes, so you know what the content is.

We generally go through some unusual news stories, talk about some cool web content we've found, and keep things light and cheery. Hopefully you'll give it a listen.

While I started podcasting prior to listening to Cliff,  most of what I really learned and continue to learn about podcasting has come from him.

Educational Podcasts:

Fireside Book Chats

Originally, these book chats started out as unrecorded conversations I was having with my students about books they chose from the library, read on their own, and had finished.  They eventually became a segment of my Room 312 podcast called the “Fireside Book Chat.”  These students, many of them my lowest level readers, loved the idea of sitting behind the microphone and recording their book talks with me.   It became kind of a competition between them to see whose book review  could generate the most downloads.  Eventually, I decided that the book chats mixed in with my mini-lessons made Room 312 feel cluttered, so I moved the book talks to their own channel.

Poem of the Week

Here I share a weekly poem, most are my own; a few are from my students.

The Room 312 Podcast

This podcast focuses on conveying mini-lessons and reinforcing what I am teaching in the classroom.   Topics range from literature concepts to grammatical points, essay writing tips down to interactive lessons.

Hello Everyone

My name is Jerry Taylor.  I've been podcasting for almost one year.  My primary (and oldest) podcast will celebrate its one year anniversary this coming May.  I use the word primary, only because I'm trying to get a few others off the ground.  More about this later.

My main podcast is The Practical Amateur Radio Podcast.  It's geared towards anyone interested in amateur or ham radio.  My primary target audience are new hams or those wishing to learn more about the hobby.  However, I believe the content is of interest to any amateur radio operator.

I started The Practical Amateur Radio Podcast as a way to give back to the hobby that I love so much.  I've always been a fan of podcasts even before owning an iPod or other MP3 type player.  The one gripe that I've had with podcasters is those that start off podcasting, develop an audience and then disappear or their episode release schedule is so sporadic it's hard to know when a new episode will be released.  Or another gripe is when they do release a new episode, it's really just a re-run of an old episode.

Before I even spoke a word into my USB microphone, I wanted to make sure I had content and ideas for 3-4 podcasts and was committed to sticking with it.  I told my listeners in the first episode that I would continue to produce the podcast for as long as there was interest.

I did make a few mistakes early on.  One was trying to do too much, too fast.  Meaning I really wanted to release two episodes per month.  My job is a busy one and I do travel from time to time.  Not to mention wanting time to do other things...I realized I was over my head and cut the schedule back to once per month.  I've managed to meet that schedule without issue.

Yes I started out like many others with a USB microphone and Audacity.  My first podcasts are scary to listen to.  The audio levels are all over the place and by some standards could be considered boring as I used on intro music etc.  However, I stood by my principles and that was to produce a "Practical" podcast.

Because of my amateur radio hobby, I already knew about the fine quality of Heil microphones.  As I saved up a little money it was a no brainer to purchase the Heil PR40 and I began using that with episode 13 in December.  I ran the Heil PR40 into an Alesis USB multimix 8 mixer and recorded to PC.

Around the time I purchased the Heil PR40 microphone, I began thinking of other podcast topics I could expand into.  I began thinking about the principles I started with on The Practical Amateur Radio Podcast and the key word that stood out in my mind was "Practical".  Hence the nickname of The Practical Podcaster was born.  I registered the domain name practicalpodcaster.com.  The idea here is to produce podcasts with practical information, or just the information that listeners need to know.

But...I made another mistake.  I had lots of time in December to get two new podcasts off the ground.  The Practical Computer Podcast and The Practical Technology Podcast.  I cranked out an introduction episode and the first main interest episode then the holidays arrived.  Soon after the holidays, my work travel schedule kicked in and then low and behold...the Flu.  Regretfully, I just released episode 3 of the two new podcasts last week.  But I have content queued up and WILL stay on schedule.

I've moved The Practical Amateur Radio Podcast over to a Joomla template format site.  I do use Wordpress for my blog and played around with both Joomla and Wordpress for podcasting and Joomla won simply because I felt it has better banner management.  You may visit the new site at www.kd0bik.com/podcast

A few weeks ago I stumbled onto The Podcast Answer Man podcast and listened to a couple of episodes.  It wasn't until I visited Cliff's website and then took the time to download all the episodes that a few things clicked.

I will never again record another podcast into a PC.  While I didn't purchase the Roland Edirol from Cliff, I did find it locally (thus the reason I didn't order from Cliff).  After speaking to Cliff and watching his video, I saw the light.  I love this Edirol unit and encourage everyone who is podcasting to order one from Cliff.

Another key thing I've recently learned from Cliff was the mix-minus setup for Skype recording.  My first interview segment was a disaster...now that I know the power behind mix-minus, all will go smooth now.

I signed up for the Plus membership yesterday and again looking forward to learning and sharing.   Plus Rocks

Well..sorry to be so long winded.  Thanks for listening.

What a great thread! I didn't even know it existed. Thanks for moving it to the top, Cliff. I've already subscribed to a few of the members' feeds. Looking forward to hearing them.

A for mine, the Streetwise Security Zone is a community I created last year to foster collaboration and education among businesses and individuals who believe that humans are the most important factor in working more securely.

Technology has given us some great advances in productivity and lifestyle, including some powerful security safeguards for computers and the Internet. But if people make the wrong risk decisions with the information and systems they handle, we can end up worse off than we started out. From data leakage and identity theft to having your computers and networks covertly turned into slaves for illegal underworld activities, people and businesses need to make an effort to educate themselves on the risks and how to protect their information assets.

The Streetwise Security Zone Podcast is the free educational audio program I started back in November as a way of spreading the word about our community.

http://www.streetwise-security-zone.com/podcast.html is where you will find the show notes and audio content.

To subscribe via iTunes:

http://snipurl.com/swsz-itunes

If you're interested in information security, from a relatively non-technical point of view, this is the place to go. So far, most of my podcasts have been interviews lasting the better part of an hour with experts on Small Business Security (episode 3), Facebook Privacy and Security (episode 4) and Security Awareness Training (episode 5, just released).

As it has been the case for so many other members, I have to thank Cliff and the folks on this forum for helping me develop the knowledge and confidence to just get out and do it. It really makes a difference for the community to have a well-planned and executed podcast.

So, please join me, and by all means, feel free to contact me to suggest improvements or topic ideas, or even if you just have questions. And don't forget to subscribe and spread the word!

 Plus Rocks

I thought this of interest to the GSPN.tv Community Members who are interested in podcasts that other Community Members are producing.  With FRiNGE returning to tv, on FOX, on 4/7/09.  All sorts of FRiNGE podcasters got together the other day and recorded a 2nd big FRiNGE Roundtable Podcast.  The first FRiNGE Roundtable Podcast was even listened to by FRiNGE co-producer and co-writer, J.R. Orci!

My co-host and I (Daniel) from FRiNGEcasting With Wayne And Dan, and fellow GSPN.tv Community Member, Darrell Darnell, from The Fringe Podcast, were among those who participated in the roundtable discussion about the return of FRiNGE!

If interested, you can download and/or listen to the FRiNGE Roundtable Podcast #02 at either of our sites (http://mediavoiceovers.com/category/production/fringe/ and http://thefringepodcast.com/).

Oh, and don't forget that:

Hey, everyone! I'm happy to announce that I've launched my newest podcast: Are You Just Watching? Critical thinking for the entertained Christian.

We've already got our first episode recorded, and we're doing another this weekend on The Dark Knight. To our knowledge (and we did a lot of searching), there is no other podcast on the internet that tries to do what we're doing.
