Hi GSPN Fans! Here I am again with the weekly round up for you. For most if not all of you, Christmastime is over. But in my family we just had our last “Christmas” event of the season. Each year all my family and cousins get together for a “family Christmas”. We don’t really exchange gifts or anything, but it’s the one time a year we all try really hard to be together, as we don’t all live close by anymore. Also, we take a lot of pride in our family’s heritage (German and Hungarian), and we often have food and drink in celebration of our heritage. The last time I hosted the get-together, I did a German “feast” – we had wursts of all types, plus pork loin and spaetzle, plus of course black forest cake and other german delicacies for dessert. This year my Dad hosted, and he did a Hungarian feast, which I’ll tell you about in a minute…
Right now, here’s what rolled out on the GSPN feed in the last week – go get ‘em while they’re hot:

So, my Dad is a widower, and although he cooks, he doesn’t feel comfortable trying to feed a crowd, so he found an eastern European gentleman by the name of Tomas to cater our party. He made some wonderful appetizers using some traditional Hungarian type cold cuts, then for the meal we had of course Hungarian Goulash and Chicken Paprikash – both amazing. For dessert we had a cake for my Dad, since our party nearly coincided with his birthday, and Tomas had written on the cake “Happy Birthday” in Hungarian – it was awesome! Also, every year it is a tradition to raise our glasses and sing “Ein Prosit” (a well known German drinking song). I love our family traditions! :-)
Do you celebrate your heritage in any way? Any special traditions? Leave me a comment and tell me what you do!
See you next week! Carole
