gspn.tv Weekly Round Up 12/17/09
Hi GSPN Fans! Here I am again with the weekly round up for you. Have you been enjoying the holiday season so far? I have, although with the holidays approaching I have two very different family situations developing. On the one hand, there is a family member that has been angry, distant, and holding a grudge for quite awhile now. The kind of thing where you feel like you’re always walking on eggshells, you know? Yet, ever since all of us were together recently, it seems like somehow the ice was broken – no one is sure what happened specifically, but now this family member finally seems to be letting go of their grudge, and it’s been wonderful to feel like the family is in unity again. The holidays have a wonderful way of softening hearts and bringing out the love and forgiveness. Yet, on the other hand, the holidays seem to have a dark side too…more about that in a minute…
Right now, here’s what rolled out on the GSPN feed in the last week – go get ‘em while they’re hot:

Podcast Answer Man 139 – When Your Podcast Becomes an Infomercial
Cliff recently received an email from a long time listener who suggested that he was contemplating unsubscribing from the Podcast Answer Man podcast and he provided his thoughts on why this was. In his email, he suggested that with the number of subscribers that Cliff has to this podcast, that he might not even notice the loss of a single subscriber.
If you are interested in hearing what reasons he gave as to why he had considered dumping the show and moving on and/or Cliff’s response to whether or not he was concerned about the loss of a single, long time subscriber of his podcast, then you need to listen to this episode.
This episode is an example of what Cliff thinks should be done in the event your podcast ends up sounding like an ongoing infomercial for your brand, products, and/or services.

+ Social Media Serenity 021 – Crushing it With Social Networking
Cliff and Erik talk about the principles of “crushing it” based on the book “Crush It” by Gary Vaynerchuk. Something that stood out to me was the recommendation to be as professional and do the best job you can from the get-go – yes, it really matters! Don’t sabotage yourself from the beginning. Don’t cop out on quality because you’re “just starting out”.
Family From the Heart 088 – Difficult Decisions
This is another podcast where Cliff and Stephanie are being “real” – they talk in depth about some of their financial struggles, and also Cliff’s struggle with being a workaholic.
This podcast episode is actually a sequel of a story that was first shared in Episode 425 of Pursuing A Balanced Life.

So, in regard to the effect of holidays on people, why oh why does it seem like in some instances, the holidays bring out the worst in people? Why does it seem like for some the holidays are an opportunity to “get back” at others, get attention, be passive-aggressive, lay on the guilt trips, etc.? We have a different family member who has now decided to purposely leave out certain people from their Christmas celebration. Ok, call me crazy but…isn’t that the OPPOSITE of what the holidays are about?!? How can one’s heart be so hardened? Gah. Well, I think all I can do is hope and pray for a “Christmas Miracle”, right? :-P
How do you deal with all the dynamics of your family at holiday time? Leave me a comment and commiserate!
See you next week! Carole
