Transformers 2 Revenge of The Fallen – Initital Reaction Review

I was invited to a special press and promotional screening of the new Transformers 2 movie that will be released in theaters tomorrow. I wanted to share a few initial thoughts that I had about the movie. No spoilers here!

I actually enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. I never watched the Transformers cartoons when I was younger. I was one of those geeky kids who watched things like Doctor Who and other similar Sci-Fi shows.

When the first Transformers movie came out, I remember everyone getting so excited about it. Personally, I had no intentions of ever seeing the movie. That was until I was in a Home Theater store where they were playing the movie on several of the HDTV sets that they were displaying.

After just the first seven minutes of the first movie, I was hooked. I went out that week and rented the first movie and watched it with the family. We all loved it! Just a few days after our family saw the movie, we learned that there were already plans for this second installment and have been looking forward to seeing it as a family ever since.

After seeing the movie, I’ve decided that this is not a movie that I would feel comfortable allowing any of my children ages 4, 7, and 9 to see at this point. While there was no nudity in the movie, the sexual innuendo and overtones of the movie were too strong for younger viewers which is probably why the movie got it’s rating of PG-13.

Even as an adult male, I feel that there was a bit too much of both Megan Fox and Isabel Lucas revealed and that very little was left to the imagination if you know what I mean. I actually found a few slow motion scenes near the end of the movie to be quite distracting from the story.

There was some slap stick humor surrounding the use of marijuana that seemed a bit out of place. I admit that I found myself laughing at the scene, but really felt as though I was watching a different movie at that point.

I had expected the movie to have some language in it. However, they did seem to push the envelope here as well. Though, I’m typically more tolerant of this aspect of movies than the aspects previously mentioned.

If you consider that this movie should not be viewed by anyone under the age of 13 and if you can overlook the items mentioned above, I felt that Transformers 2 was actually better than the first movie. The special effects where overwhelming at times yet done in amazing detail. Of course if you like the non-stop action genre, this movie will not disappoint.

Many geeks have waited a lifetime for these Transformers movies and will find Revenge of The Fallen to be a popcorn devouring, eye popping, nostalgia sparking crowd pleaser.

(Oops. I clicked submit before I meant to.)

I really thought the movie borrowed too much from other movies, had weak dialog, pointless characters, too many plot and logic holes, and WAY too much sex. It's too bad people may get the idea this is a "kids" movie since it's based on toys, but it's only for those "kids" who grew up with Transformers and are now adults.

I liked how they played with history, and the soundtrack was amazing (Steven Jablonsky is one of my favorite composers).

It's a good thing my ticket was free, because I wouldn't have been happy to pay to see this movie—it wouldn't have been worth it.

Eve and I (from "Are You Just Watching?") saw the movie today. Everyone in our group gave it a low C. Eve, a guest, and I recorder our initial reactions and will post soon.

I actually did not like the movie not that much. The marijuana jokes were not helping the story at all, something the movie was lacking already in my opinion.

I can not deny that Megan Fox looks good, but her acting skills are quite bad... I did not really like Shia Laboeuf that much either, he is playing the same character again. He is always the same person, just as in Transformers 1 (which is obvious) but also as in for example Eagle Eye. It is kind of boring to see the same person over and over again.

The camera work was not that great either, it circled around every person who was standing still, and it was even shakier than in the Bourne Ultimatum. And the Twins were worst of all, they were and close to racist and dissapeared in the middle of a fight... Why?
The thing with the two dogs was just stupid...

But, to end on a positive note: The special effects were great, and the explosions were as good as you could expect from Michael Bay. Guess it's not my type of movie anymore, since I liked the first one.

Glad you people liked it, but I'v had enough of Bay in my pretty short life.

And just as Barb said: This is my opinion, and I do not comment on anybody liking the movie, I'm just saying I did not like it that much.

I went to see Transformers 2. I must say it was awesome to me.

There was a lot of low key profanity (when I say low key I mean not the truly vulgar ones) which probably should have been avoided if they were trying to attract the younger audience. I know it was PG-13 but there was still a lot of it in almost every conversation.

I did however, take my child who is 5. He does not focus in so much on the dialog but the actual action of the movie at this point. Maybe if he was watching it over and over again or if he was in the age range that keys in on the conversations then I would be worried about him repeating some of the "inappropriate" words.

If your child is attentive and picks up on conversations quickly or is not subject to that kind of language then I would not suggest taking them to see this movie. I do think the rating should have been higher because of the profanity since there was so much of it.

The clothing choices of the girls, Megan Fox and the other college girl, were a bit revealing but depending on where you live that is how some teens/college kids actually dress. I have been to the mall and seen women dressed like that. As I said I don't think this movie was geared for a younger audience but more for the adults that enjoyed the cartoons as a child but now with a more up to date feel and look.

But all in all to me it was a great movie. I would love to see it again, preferably without the kids, so I can really get more into it. Four stars from me! This is just my personal opinion so please don't start a debate with me or bash my comment. Everyone's view is going to be different and I surely don't comment on anyone else's opinions. Thanks!

I really enjoyed the movie with the exception of the two jive talking robots with gold teeth. Being african american I'm a little tired of hollywood's depiction of ethnic characters (robots or not). Other than that, and the million groin jokes, I really thought they did a great job of bringing my childhood cartoon to life. I would definitely NOT take children to see Transformers 2.

Is there really such a thing as too much Megan Fox? I kid, I kid.... ;)

Hey Cliff, I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your review. My wife and I plan to go see it this week. I hope all is well!
