Is There A Market For Podcast Producers?
Nathan called in to ask if I thought there was a market for someone who wanted to produce podcasts for others rather than produce their own show(s). He also asked how I might go about convincing someone that they need to create a podcast.
I share my thoughts on the market opportunity for podcasting services in the podcast episode. I also made mention of the Podcast Answer Man referral network that I've been building over the past several months. I also made refernce of my post at http://PodcastAnswerMan.com/business.
Podcasts iOS Update 1.0.1
Apple released an update to the Podcasts iOS application this week. Initially, I had some significant issues getting the application to load. However, with some persistence, I was able to get it to finally load. It seemed to be stuck for a few moments, while doing something in the background. However, after it did its thing, it seemed to work much as I would have expected it to.
This appears to have only been an update with a few minor bug fixes. The one feature that is missing, that keeps me from moving back to this application to manage my podcast subscriptions at this point, is that I can't play the audio from a video podcast while the application is running in the background.
How about you? Have you noticed any improvement with the new release of the Podcasts application? Please let me know in the comments section below.
Why Do We Wear Headphones?
In episode 269, I went on and on about how much I love my new Sony MDR-7506 headphones. However, I neglected to bring up a topic that I am often asked about. Many people have wanted to know why I recommend wearing headphones in situations where it is only myself in the studio or where two or more people in the recording are all in the same space. In this episode, I demonstrate the answer to this question.
What If Someone Dislikes Your Affiliate Link Promotion?
JD Sutter called in to say that he has been producing his podcast for two years without any sort of advertising at all. In a recent episode, he made a brief mention of his Amazon affiliate link at the very beginning of his show. While he felt that this was done in the most tasteful way possible, JD says… “After that episode, we got some pushback from LISTENERS (read plural) saying that they felt like they were listening to an NPR shareathon type of program.”
JD then asked for my advice on how he could… “respond to that LISTENER (read singular), in a respectful way, letting him (read singular) know” that we felt that it was done in a tasteful way.
I shared the quotes here in the show notes to demonstrate how JD seems to be clearly communicating that he is looking for advice on how to respond to ONE MAN who gave some pushback. However, it is clear, from his earlier statement that JD has automatically assumed that this one person is a clear representation of multiple people in his community when he stated that he received some pushback from listeners.
I share my full thoughts on this subject in this podcast episode.
Personal Plug of The Week

I'm Partnering With B&H Photo
I'm extremely excited to begin what I believe will be an amazing relationship with B&H Photo, Video, & Pro Audio. In this episode, I shared that I have entered into an affiliate relationship with them and I spent several hours updating and optimizing my Equipment Page here on the site.
My relationship with B&H, however, is going to go quite a few steps beyond the typical affiliate relationship, as I am working on a few things with them that I'm not quite yet ready to announce. However, I can tell you that there will be a great deal more product reviews coming to Podcast Answer Man as a result of this relationship. Please do me a favor and have a look at their website and look at just how many things they have to offer. I simply ask that before making a purchase, please consider coming back to my site and click through my B&H Affiliate Link.
There should either be a banner somewhere in my sidebar or you will always find a plethora of affiliate links on my equipment page. Please know that you can click on any of my affiliate links that you may find on that page and I will receive credit for anything you order after having clicked through. I so appreciate the support that I have received from this community when it comes to those who purchase my products and/or services and who use my affiliate links. Thank you!
Farnoosh Brock Celebrates One Year of Podcasting
I met Farnoosh Brock just over a year ago at BlogWorld NYC 2011. She had just recently left her high paying career in the corporate world to start her own business and she was in the early stages of developing her career coaching brand. When I returned from my trip to NYC, I invited Farnoosh to come on to the show to tell us her story. You can listen to that early interview in Podcast Answer Man episode 214.
Following that interview, Farnoosh had signed up for my July 2011 Podcasting A to Z course and she had launched her first podcast before the end of our four week course.
I recently reached out to Farnoosh to see how things have been going with her podcast and to see how well her coaching business has been growing. I was so delighted by what I had heard that I felt that the Podcast Answer Man community would be inspired to have a one year later update.
On August 1st, Farnoosh's podcast will be 1 year old and she has produced 52 weekly episodes.
There is no question that Farnoosh has been one of my best students to go through the Podcasting A to Z course. However, as you will learn in this interview, despite my consistent warning against launching more than one podcast, she had intended to produce her first podcast for several weeks and then move forward with a plan to launch a second and third podcast. In this follow up interview, you'll get an update on how those plans turned out and what she learned as a result of attempting to produce three different podcasts.
I certainly hope that you will be inspired by Farnoosh's determination to continue with her main podcast in spite of the fact that the number of people who downloaded her early episodes were a great deal lower than what she had anticipated. I'm thrilled that she continued to see the high value that each individual represented in growing her brand. Her consistency was rewarded as the audience for her podcast had eventually started to take off.
I am also thrilled with the update of how Farnoosh's coaching business is going. She had launched an online course, similar to my Podcasting A to Z course, for those who are looking to create an exit strategy from a job that they hate and to develop a plan to create work that they love.
Her first sessions was such a huge success that she has decided to do another session of our Smart Exit Blueprint course that will begin on August 20th. I am very discerning when it comes to the affilate programs that I sign up for. However, I am proud to be an affiliate for Farnoosh's course. If you are would like to create a plan to transition into work around something that you are passionate about, I encourage you to click here to check out the full details.
I'm Coming To Dallas/Fort Worth
I'm so excited to announce that I am going to be speaking at the Catholic New Media Conference. The conference is going to be held in the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area on August 29th-31st. I'm very honored to be the Keynote speaker that will open up the event on the 29th. I'll be talking about “How To Market Your Message To The World.” If you are in the area, or willing to travel there, I would love to meet you in Dallas next month. I'll be there for the whole conference.
Podcast Artwork for $175
Most podcasters do not invest enough into the artwork for their podcast. The truth is that your podcast artwork is often what sets the 1st impression for your podcast. This is especially true when it comes to those who find your show in a podcast directory.
I've been working with Jenny Hamson for several years and she does all my podcast artwork. I've also personally contracted her to do the artwork for all of my coaching and consulting clients. In all the years that I have worked with Jenny, she's never failed to provide artwork that not only meets expectations but delivers far more than could have been anticipated. If you are looking for artwork, please contact Jenny Hamson today and tell her that Cliff sent you!
I Appreciate Your iTunes Reviews!
I started Podcast Answer Man in December of 2006. Would you believe that until April 2012, I never spent much energy to ask anyone to provide a rating and/or review for this show in iTunes?
If you have ever read my blog post about how iTunes podcast ratings work, then you know just how valuable leaving a 5 star rating and/or a written review can be to a content producer.
I am so incredibly thankful to those who have recently gone into my listing in iTunes to provide a five start rating and a written review of Podcast Answer Man. Here are the iTunes reviews that have been posted from 5/26/2012 through 6/21/2012.
