Xmarks is here to stay. At least for now.

37 Signals Announces The Suite Package
http://37signals.com/suite
The Suite is a bundle of our four 37 Signals apps: Basecamp, Highrise, Backpack, and Campfire for one low price (starting at $99/month).

For the initial release of the 37signals Suite, they targeted three key customer requests:
Big savings over purchasing each app separately. Basically you get four for the price of just about two. Depending on which apps you have, and which plans you are currently on, the savings can be significant.
Simplified billing. Instead of getting charged separately for multiple apps, you’ll get a single charge from us on your credit card every month. You can update your credit card, upgrade your plan, downgrade your plan, or cancel all from one screen as well.
Unified users across all your apps. Before the Suite, if you had Basecamp and Highrise, you’d have to create the same users in multiple apps. That was a pain. The Suite shares uses across all the apps. You can create and manage all your users across all your apps from a single screen.

I, Cliff, haven not yet tried Basecamp yet. I think I’ll wait until client data is shared between the apps. I don’t to have to re enter email address, etc, into Basecamp.

Cliff’s Initial Thoughts On Priority Inbox:
I like that priority inbox gives you three levels to your inbox. Top Level equals your highest priority emails to respond to. The Middle Level shows you your starred items. I love the starred items actually showing up in the inbox but separate from the rest of the emails. The Lower Level shows all your other messages.

One major issue that bugs me about the default setting is if I actually read a message in my priority inbox and don’t respond immediately, it puts it down in my “all other” inbox. I want it to stay at the top until I respond to it. Thankfully there is a setting to change it so it will keep all important emails at the top.

After about an hour of using Priority Inbox, I went in and turned it off. It was messing with my inbox count and I try to maintain a very low amount of emails in my inbox anyway. I will miss the feature of seeing the starred items, but I would have preferred those be at the bottom of the list anyway. I can see myself turning on the Priority Inbox in the future, if I get more than 50 emails behind.

The Client Comes First?:
Should the client come first? When is it appropriate to put yourself before the needs of your client or to put off meeting their needs till the next day or so?

GoTo Meeting w/ HD Faces Coming in Early 2011:
I was logging into GoTo Meeting the other day and saw an announcement on their page that they are bringing video conferencing to GoTo Meeting. Do other services do this already? Sure. But, as it is with GoTo Meeting, I just like how they plan to do it better than the competition. GoTo Meeting is like the Apple platform of Web Conferencing. Check out the following link for a 7 minute video demo.

Cliff Signed Up For Free 90 Day Trial of GoToWebinar:
Been using GoToMeeting for quite some time and LOVE IT. GoToMeeting allows me to have up to 15 people in the meeting for $49/month. GoToWebinar allows me to have have up to 100 people in the meeting for $99/mo. Also, GoToWebinar allows for the Raising of Hands, Questions, and Polls during the meeting. 050 Business Tech Weekly – Episode Fiddy

by Cliff Ravenscraft on October 1, 2010

in Business Tech Weekly

This week we celebrate our 50th episode of Business Tech Weekly. Andy and Cliff discuss how disappointed they are to learn that XMarks will be shutting down its services. They both said that if XMarks were willing to ask its users to pay a small annual fee for the service, they would both do so in a heartbeat.

Cliff talked about his Kindle's New Twitter Account and how he was able to set Instapaper to automatically deliver daily updates to the Kindle free of charge. (Link Here) Note, it says that you will be charged, but this is only if the data is transferred via 3G. Listen to the episode for details.

We thank you for listening to our first fifty episodes of Business Tech Weekly. We look forward to many more to come!

048 BTW – Giving It All Away?

by Cliff Ravenscraft on September 17, 2010

in Business Tech Weekly

This is a Plus Member Episode.

In this episode, Cliff and Andy share some new features made available to DropBox (https://gspn.tv/dropbox). The feature that most excites Cliff is the ability to actually retrieve multiple versions of previously saved and backed up copies of files. This feature is very similar to what exists with Apple's Time Machine backup utility.

Also in this episode, Andy shares why he recently decided to give away, for free, the training tutorials that he had previously been charging for. This generated an interesting content about the value of free and the concept of when to charge for such products.
