Hebrews 12:14 (NLT)

Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.

The main focus of this verse seems to be centered around living a holy life. The fact that there is a warning for those who are not holy would tempt to simplify and paraphrase this verse as being “LIVE A HOLY LIFE.” However, there is much more being said here.
First, there is the word WORK! Work at living a holy life indicates that this is a process and not something that we can or should assume that we would master overnight.
Second, while I think that it is important to take this verse and reflect on how we can work at living a holy life and what that might mean for us in our day to day lives. I think it would be TRAGIC if we overlooked the WORK at LIVING IN PEACE WITH EVERYONE.
If the two could be separated, which they can not, I'd say it's easier to live a holy life than to live at peace with EVERYONE! To be holy means to be “set apart.” Set apart for God's Purpose. God's purpose for us is to Love Him and to Love others! We can not be holy if we do not WORK at living in peace with everyone we come in contact with.
Be encouraged and know that if you are struggling like me with this living at peace with EVERYONE, just know that the scripture does describe this as WORK!
