review

I was invited to a special press and promotional screening of the new Transformers 2 movie that will be released in theaters tomorrow. I wanted to share a few initial thoughts that I had about the movie. No spoilers here!

I actually enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. I never watched the Transformers cartoons when I was younger. I was one of those geeky kids who watched things like Doctor Who and other similar Sci-Fi shows.

When the first Transformers movie came out, I remember everyone getting so excited about it. Personally, I had no intentions of ever seeing the movie. That was until I was in a Home Theater store where they were playing the movie on several of the HDTV sets that they were displaying.

After just the first seven minutes of the first movie, I was hooked. I went out that week and rented the first movie and watched it with the family. We all loved it! Just a few days after our family saw the movie, we learned that there were already plans for this second installment and have been looking forward to seeing it as a family ever since.

After seeing the movie, I've decided that this is not a movie that I would feel comfortable allowing any of my children ages 4, 7, and 9 to see at this point. While there was no nudity in the movie, the sexual innuendo and overtones of the movie were too strong for younger viewers which is probably why the movie got it's rating of PG-13.

Even as an adult male, I feel that there was a bit too much of both Megan Fox and Isabel Lucas revealed and that very little was left to the imagination if you know what I mean. I actually found a few slow motion scenes near the end of the movie to be quite distracting from the story.

There was some slap stick humor surrounding the use of marijuana that seemed a bit out of place. I admit that I found myself laughing at the scene, but really felt as though I was watching a different movie at that point.

I had expected the movie to have some language in it. However, they did seem to push the envelope here as well. Though, I'm typically more tolerant of this aspect of movies than the aspects previously mentioned.

If you consider that this movie should not be viewed by anyone under the age of 13 and if you can overlook the items mentioned above, I felt that Transformers 2 was actually better than the first movie. The special effects where overwhelming at times yet done in amazing detail. Of course if you like the non-stop action genre, this movie will not disappoint.

Many geeks have waited a lifetime for these Transformers movies and will find Revenge of The Fallen to be a popcorn devouring, eye popping, nostalgia sparking crowd pleaser.
