gspn.tv Weekly Round Up 9/2/10

Hi gspn.tv Fans! This is Carole from the Community here again bringing you the Weekly Round Up. Of special note this week is the Business Tech Weekly Episode “Making Calls From Your Computer Using Google Voice”.  This is pretty fun – Cliff “reports live” as he tries it out on the show right as they are recording.  It sounds pretty cool – possibly an alternative to Skype and it’s been integrated right into the Gmail page.  I decided to take a peek at it myself, and because of that, I inadvertently ended up learning something very useful and surprising, which I’ll tell you about in a minute…

Right now, here’s what rolled out on the GSPN feed in the last week – go get ‘em while they’re hot:

Podcast Answer Man 175 – Zune Podcasting and Zoom H1 Digital Audio Recorder Review

In this episode, Cliff is delighted to share an interview that he had with Rob Greenlee from Microsoft’s Zune Podcasting department. In the conversation with Rob, we learn why so many podcasters had not be able to get their feeds listed in the Zune podcasting directory. Cliff is very happy to announce that any podcaster who wants to get their show listed in the Zune Directory can do so by emailing Rob@Zune.net. Speaking with Rob has helped renew some passion for the fact that Microsoft is paying to employ someone who’s purpose in the company is to support podcasters. This is very good news!

Also in this episode, Cliff is delighted to let you know that he has finally received his review unit of the Zoom H1 Handy Digital Audio Recorder.  The H1 review portion of this episode was actually recorded on the Zoom H1 recorder.  Cliff goes into detail about his concerns with the  Zoom H1 Recorder and gives his recommendation on whether this device is a good option for some people.

Virtual Assistant Podcast 020 – Try Until You Find the Right Virtual Assistant For You

Today Cliff is joined by Jacqueline Sinfield who is an ADHD coach. Jacqueline is a registered nurse, qualified counselor and has a degree in psychology. Jacqueline was diagnosed with severe dyslexia when she was twenty-eight. Her struggles with dyslexia have aided in her work with clients who struggle with ADHD. Jacqueline’s book “Untapped Brilliance: How to Reach Your Full Potential as an Adult with ADHD” shares with readers how to reach their full potential as an adult with ADD or ADHD tendencies. You can find out more about Jacqueline by visiting her website UntappedBrilliance.com

Jacqueline shares with us her experience in finding the right virtual assistant. It took Jacqueline three attempts before she found the right VA for her. As the old saying goes “The third time is a charm!” Here are some of the topics they discussed:

* How long did you stick with your first VA?
* What was it that made you think the VA was not a good fit for you?
* How did you go about asking for a different VA?
* How long did you stick with your 2nd VA?
* What was it that made you think the 2nd VA was not a good fit?
* How is it that you didn’t give up?
* What convinced you to try a 3rd time?
* What would you say to someone who tries 3 times and strikes out all three times?
* How are things with your current VA?
* What advice would you give someone who is looking for a VA in regards to setting proper expectations up front?
…and much more!

About the Church 118 – Liturgy of the Hours

In this episode of About The Church, Cliff is joined by Dane Falkner and Greg Pedroza from DivineOffice.org. In Podcast Answer Man episode 174, Cliff explained how Divine Office had offered to sponsor a trip to Podcamp Boston 5 that he and Stephanie are taking the weekend of September 25th and 26th. Cliff would like to invite you to check out http://gspn.tv/divineoffice for more details about this generous sponsorship.

Cliff invited Dane and Greg to help answer some questions that he had about the Liturgy of The Hours, a spiritual discipline that I admittedly knew very little about. If you are interested in investigating this topic further, check out DivineOffice.org.

So, fellow gspn.tv listeners, I mentioned that I was poking around with Google Voice and it occurred to me that I didn’t know if my laptop had a microphone or not.  I knew there was a “hole” in the front of my computer with a little picture of a microphone, but was that just a “line in”, or an internal microphone, or what?  So I googled my laptop brand and model and discovered  that I indeed DO have an internal microphone, AND I discovered how to set it up as well!  I’ve had this laptop for two years and I’m embarrassed to say I had no idea I had a microphone – D’oh!  See – you never know what you might learn by listening to Cliff – even by accident!  :-D

What’s the coolest (or funniest) thing YOU ever learned because you listened to a gspn.tv podcast?  Leave me a comment and share!

See you next week! Carole
